My Favorite Things…
“The gift of giving”
I just got back from delivering food for Project Angel Food. I began volunteering for them about two years ago… it’s the most rewarding aspect of my life.
The Project Angel Food Program is founded by Marianne Williamson as an outreach program of the Los Angeles Center for Living, which helps people with life-threatening illnesses. The Center for Living provides numerous programs, such as The Clean Team, Project Nightlight and Hospice Care. They also prepare lunch for drop-in clients, but as fewer and fewer are able to leave their homes, lunch is delivered to them.
Project Angel Food's mission is to nourish the body and spirit of men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS and other serious illnesses.
Volunteers, who help in the kitchen and make the deliveries, are a crucial component of the program. While the immediate need they fulfill is the prevention of hunger, these caring individuals also deliver compassion and help reduce the terrible isolation that many people living with AIDS and other serious illnesses often experience.
Clients are grouped into 90 geographically-based routes, ranging from Lancaster to Long Beach. Volunteers using their own vehicles deliver from 6 to 10 meals per route. The central kitchen is located in Hollywood. Meals are also distributed via satellite drop-off points in North Hollywood, Pasadena, Silverlake, Santa Monica, South Central Los Angeles and the Antelope Valley.

I absolutely think all beepsters should get involved… what a wonderful gift – the gift of giving back – the wondrous gift of getting out of self and helping others.
