Hey Beepsters,
It’s a been a while since I have checked in with “MY FAVORITE THINGS” so I thought I’d stop by to share some of my latest inspirations…

New favorite read:
I recently just finished an amazing book that I stumbled across at the bookstore. The book is called THE VELVETEEN PRINCIPLES
THE VELVETEEN RABBIT is considered to be a classic and many children have studied the story in school. Unfortunately, many children remember the story being very sad through their empathy for the boy and thinking that rabbit has died. Few young children remember the uplifting ending where the rabbit becomes real and free. In the ending it states
"...And she kissed the little Rabbit again and put him down on the grass. "Run and play, little Rabbit!" she said. But the little Rabbit sat quite still for a moment and never moved. For when he saw all the wild rabbits dancing around him he suddenly remembered about his hind legs, and he didn't want them to see that he was made all in one piece. He did not know that when the Fairy kissed him that last time she had changed him altogether. And he might have sat there a long time, too shy to move, if just then something hadn't tickled his nose, and before he thought what he was doing he lifted his hind toe to scratch it. And he found that he actually had hind legs! Instead of dingy velveteen he had brown fur, soft and shiny, his ears twitched by themselves, and his whiskers were so long that they brushed the grass. He gave one leap and the joy of using those hind legs was so great that he went springing about the turf on them, jumping sideways and whirling round as the others did, and he grew so excited that when at last he did stop to look for the Fairy she had gone. He was a Real Rabbit at last, at home with the other rabbits." (This is from the book - VELVETEEN PRINCIPLES)
THE VELVETEEN PRINCIPLES is a guide to becoming real – real with ourselves. Through the simple wisdom of a children’s classic, it helped me to strip off the trappings of the object culture and remember the things that make me unique, happy and worthy of love. It showed me that Real is a process that is sometimes intimidating and sometimes painful, but in the end, far more rewarding than I ever could have imagined. This book put such a smile on my face and warmth in my heart.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE a great read!!! I hope you enjoy.
New favorite eating spot:
I am a huge fan of Jay (no last name – just JAY), the artist/chef behind the mastery of Acashi - my
favorite sushi spot. The place is nothing fancy - a casual, somewhat timeworn, ok - a bit divey - space on the inner limits of Studio City right across the street from CBS Radford.
The food and atmosphere is extraordinary. The “blues” always playing… and some sort of sporting event usually on the tube at the bar. The outdoor patio is covered in grape vines and all the tables twinkle with tea-lights. It has an almost Barney's Beanery vibe. Definitely a place to let loose.
Aunt Beep and I have met a few occasions and Jay hooks us up with the most amazing creation. He named it “The In & Out Sushi Burger” – which consists of decadence wrapped in a lettuce cup. It’s drenched in a delicious spicy/mayonnaise and the combination of the cold fresh lettuce, the fish of choice (usual battered in a tempura coating) and the spicy “secret” sauce is dreamy.
Anything I order is always so fresh and delicate – Jay takes is fish very seriously.
Oh and by the way – the prices are fabulous.
